Emily Laidlaw is a writer and editor based in Melbourne. Her arts criticism has appeared in The Weekend Australian, Australian Book Review, The Big Issue, Metro, Readings Monthly, Books+Publishing and on the websites for The Lifted Brow, Wheeler Centre and Kill Your Darlings. Her personal essay Amour appears in Seizure’s Editions series.
She is a former online editor at Kill Your Darlings. From 2010-2012, she worked on Voiceworks magazine’s editorial committee and in 2013, she guest edited Overland journal’s online Winter Fiction issue. In 2008, she co-edited student newspaper, Lot’s Wife.
Emily has spoken on panels at the Emerging Writers’ Festival, Digital Writers’ Festival and National Young Writers’ Festival. She has also judged literary prizes and run writing and editing workshops for Express Media.
In 2015, she earned an honours degree in English and Creative Writing at the University of Melbourne, for which she received a First. Following her studies she received an Australia Council for the Arts’ ArtStart grant, which allowed her to travel to writers’ festivals in Ubud, Jaipur and Beijing.
