Emily Laidlaw is a writer and editor from Melbourne, Australia. Her arts criticism has appeared in The Weekend Australian, The Big Issue, Metro, Australian Book Review, Books+Publishing, Seizure, The Lifted Brow, Kill Your Darlings and the Wheeler Centre online.
She is a former online editor at Kill Your Darlings. From 2010-2012, she worked on Voiceworks magazine’s editorial committee and in 2013, she guest edited Overland journal’s online Winter Fiction issue. In 2008, she co-edited student newspaper, Lot’s Wife.
Emily has spoken on panels at the Emerging Writers’ Festival, Digital Writers’ Festival and National Young Writers’ Festival. She has also judged literary prizes and run writing and editing workshops for Express Media.
In 2015, she earned an honours degree in English and Creative Writing at the University of Melbourne, for which she received a First. Following her studies she received an Australia Council for the Arts’ ArtStart grant, which allowed her to research, and travel to, writers’ festivals in Ubud, Jaipur and Beijing.
